Warning: This is not your typical desert safari.
Desert safaris in Dubai come a dime-a-dozen. Literally, there are dozens of tour operators and companies all pedaling their own “desert experience”. Truth is: there are all the same. Sand dune bashing in SUVs, camel rides, play time in Arabic garb, henna, and a fire twirling and belly dancing show with mediocre food options. I know all of this because I’ve done them all. More than once. And they all suck. But it’s what tourists want to do when they visit Dubai.
Luckily, the crew at Expert Rangers have it all figured out! They offer a unique and adrenaline pumping experience that will have you craving more.
After being picked up from our hotel, we rode about an hour, just along the Sharjah-Kalba Road, towards the east-coast exclaves. This road leads to a spectacular desert of ruby sand: Al Faya Desert. Both amateurs and skilled drivers favor this area, due to its dunes, which are rumored to be the biggest in the UAE. Al Faya is also a popular spot by locals and tourists alike to set up camp under the stars.
The instructor gives a briefing on the buggy’s mechanics and what to do should you find yourself stuck (I should’ve listened during this point 😝). Then, it’s time to buckle up, helmets down, and go!
Not Quite Tokyo Drift
When it was my turn to drive, we had a few hiccups (I feel the desert Gods weren’t pleased with my driving skills), which resulted in us getting stuck and covered in sand. Luckily, the Expert Rangers crew dug us out and sent us on our way.
But, Did You Die?
Overall, our memories from the hour driving experience are unforgettable. The Expert Rangers staff was extremely professional, polite, helpful and always put our safety first. Highly recommend booking your next desert excursion with them! Be sure to mention this blog when booking your excursion!
