The Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola is a small luxury hotel and the only five-star superior hotel in Lugano. The elegant villa was originally built in 1880 for a noble Russian family, then sold to a young Swiss couple in 1885. The couple soon transformed it into a hotel and was owned by the family until 1982. Today, after several renovations and expansions, the hotel has 42 bedrooms and 32 suites, all with breathtaking views of the subtropical park and Lake Lugano.
With its long standing tradition of beauty, elegance and comfort, Villa Castagnola has been the chosen holiday destination for many politicians, aristocrats, artists, and business executives, all seeking privacy and rest in discreet yet sophisticated surroundings. And for the right price, the average Joe’s and Josephine’s are welcomed too!

How Was The Stay?
Villa Castagnola provides everything you could ever want in a hotel. Privacy, luxury, elegance, and comfort. I love visiting Lugano and now that I’ve found the perfect hotel, I plan to visit a lot more often. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The Junior Suite Superior is very spacious and comfortable with two terraces offering stunning views of Lake Lugano. Perfect setting to grab a bottle of wine, have a seat on the terrace and enjoy the Swiss sunset.
